Collaborative Forecast Discussion ~ February 22nd 605AM
On Wednesday morning a cold front associated with low pressure north of the Great Lakes blasts thru our region in the morning hours. Trace ESE swells are possible at dawn but rapidly fade to trace levels with the brisk W winds. Small SW chop transitions to semi-organized short period medium swells amidst the W winds.
On Thursday a large zone of surface low pressure over Quebec keeps New England and the waters just to our south in a general W/SW winds flow, so expect to see a continuation of the SW chops and swells in the small range with random medium sets. Meanwhile intensifying low pressure cruises thru Chicago in the afternoon.
On Friday low pressure to our west approaches western New York and a cold front extending southward to New Orleans with an attendant warm front off Delmarva takes aim at the eastern seaboard. Gale force S/SW winds develop off the entire coastline with storm force gusts possible. Seas rise to 10-20 feet. Locally medium SW chop builds to large levels with poor conditions due to rather strong onshore flow.
On Saturday low pressure further intensifies NE of Maine with New England locked in brisk W winds with a secondary cold front reloading from New York. Large S/SW swells with bigger sets for best spots in the morning hours, conditions fade slowly thru the day although longer period swells arrive in the afternoon albeit smaller size. Surf should penetrate back toward New Hampshire given the long S fetch but we'll re-cast that in a few days.
On Sunday the secondary cold front cruises thru the region with local winds veering to moderate NW winds. Any S/SW swells leftover will peak in the morning hours and fade quickly thru the day while high pressure over Georgia takes control of our local weather.
On Monday tranquil weather with light WNW winds with high pressure in control. Over the weekend low pressure will have developed over the inter-mountain west and a piece of that low pressure should eject eastward hooking up with the northern jet stream. This spoke of energy will be the next potential wave maker.
