Post surfer's ear surgery

Has anyone out there ever been diagnosed with bony ear growth in their ear canal due to surfing in cold water? I recently lost the hearing in my left ear and went to a sppecialist who told me the bone had grwon so much it needed to be surgically removed or I would have continuing hearing problems.

I ended up leaving his office pretty bummed and bought a wax removal kit on the ride home, and used it like 5 times that night and my ear blockage popped open the next day.

I don't wana rush into this, but thought there might be some folks out there who have experienced this "surfer's ear" problem and head to deal with it.

thanks for any advice
