Variations on that story are all too common. How often do you see young kids playing in ankle deep foam on a steeply sloping beach, watchful parent unaware that a big set wave might carry the kid into deep water.

Sounds like this woman suffered the same fate as many others, not being aware of their surroundings and the variables. It's a shame, but it a common scenario. This story reminded me of Chris macandless from Into The Wild.
