Stolen AKA hybrid surfboard [Archive] - New England's Surf Community

Posting for a friend since he doesn't have an account here.

My buddy lost his AKA surfboard at second beach in RI the other day. It was taken from the grassy parking lot across from the surfer's end lot. Here are the specs:

6'8" AKA hybrid swallow tail 5 fin convertible setup as a tri-fin. clear.

Please try and keep an eye out for it, and if anyone knows the whereabouts, let me know!

Whoa... like ripped right off a roof rack? I'm going to be newbing it up soon in RI possibly, so things like this might be good to keep in the back of my mind. Society sickens me.

No, not really stolen off the racks, it was sort of left in the grassy area unattended for a few moments, and then It was gone when he returned. Even if I found an unattended board laying there I probably wouldn't take it, or I'd hang around it all day to see if anyone picked it up before I took it. And even if I did take it, I'd leave a note in the area saying it was found.

sounds like he needs to start by asking you...

since your parents didnt love you...if something is not yours...you shouldn't take it regardless of how long it sits somewhere.

Haha yep, I stole it. Sucker. I don't take things that aren't mine. I would take something to keep it safe if I knew someone not as nice as I am would be by to take it anyway and keep it for themselves for good. Then I'd make sure I brought it to some sort of lost and found or equivalent in this case with a note left behind for the pour soul.

I figured the rest of my post made that clear.

I usually have the mentality that whatever can be stolen, will be. Probably developed this mindset from locking my bike up in major cities. People will steal shit if it's easy enough.

Grew up in the city mostly as well, living there now, and I totally agree. I just kinda had this portrayed impression that when you get out of the "ghetto" and away form the "gangstas" and into the surf towns shit was different, culture was different, more spirituality ect. Obviously not, to this day I've had over ten bikes stolen straight out of my back yard and have only recovered one. It gets to a point where its pointless, was thinking surfing would be a way to escape this shit....good luck with the hunt brah.

2nd beach isn't in Newport....it's in Middletown, and there is a world of difference between the two. (ask anyone who grew up in either town during the 80's.)

I lent my bike to my sister when she moved to the city because i thought she would use it more than me and one of two things happened within the first year of her moving there for college, her car was broken into and my sister keeps everything in her car. You can only guess what happened to my sister next, i never saw that bike again but if it was a surfboard that would be another story....
