View Full Version : Stolen WRV @ Matunuck 8 am 6/6/09

I'm posting this for my friend.

Her board was stolen right out of the back of her truck at Matunuck about 8 am this morning (6/6/09) literally while she was checking the spot for all of 10 minutes.

(And yes I asked several times that she was certain that shit didn't fly out on the road before she parked, saw it when she parked.)

The board is a 7'4" WRV funboard, white with red flames .

1. It wasn't even a real cool board, whoever stole it is a douche.
2. Whoever stole it must have watched her pull in and wait to take, very douche.

Basically I think it's totally fucking fucked that any of us should have to worry about our boards getting stolen out of our trucks/cars while we CHECK A SPOT ABOUT 20 FT AWAY.

Maybe we can do a group buy through nesurf of giant 8 ft long custom pelican cases and then rivet them to our vehicles to insure the ultimate safety of our possessions while we paddle out.

If anyone sees/hears anything about this board please post a reply or shoot me a pm. Thanks.

If I see someone on this board I'm going to paddle up to them and start feeding them their own teeth.

Make sure you call all the local surf shops to have them keep an eye out for it.

I am a longtime resident of Matunuck and it kills me to hear things like this. We are a small community of an ever increasing number of surfers that cruise by the beach daily. We know and watch out for each other. If something is lost or found, it or a note is placed on the fence at the Deep Hole Parking lot in hope to find the owner. An extra effort is made by locals to tolerate the URI college students, the summer vacationers, and the hordes of traveling surfers that seem to become regulars from New Jersey to Maine. Yes, surfboards have been stolen before, and this certainly won't be the last time. But, I can personally assure you that your sufboard was not taken by a local. Simply put, we don't steal. Today was a typical weekend day of small swell and offshore winds. Cars started rolling in before 5 am from all over to check waves. The crowds came and went until dark. Your surfboard will probably never be seen here again. But if it does, it will be noted and if hopefully collected. Please pm me with as close of description of the board as possible, including serial #, lettering, fins etc. I will post a sign and it will be read. It will serve as heads-up to others and may help nail the thief.

I am by no means a local at Matunuck but surf there enough without ever having problems to know it wasn't any of the regular faces. I agree that it likely was some ass passing through and that it is way up or down I-95 by now.

It was my friends board so I'll try to get a serial or picture or whatever up and sent to you as soon as possilbe in the case someone is fucking stupid enough to surf it where they stole it. I appreciate it.

The only thing that surprises me is that you guys are all amazed a surfboard is stolen.
What? Are you guys a bunch of idiots?? If an item has value, it is a target for theft. Ever hear of "drugs"? Ever hear of "recession"? Ever hear of "unemployed"? Those are just a few motivating factors for theft. So grow up.
If you do not want your shit stolen....at a beach, no less....... lock it up!!! That is especially true of surfboards- they are high priced items. They are popular now--an easy venue for quick cash. LOCK IT UP.
Get rid of your "all surfers are loving brahs" attitude. They are not. geeez.....

And by the way--unfortunately, recovering that board is a 1 out of a million chance of happening. It is on its way to another part of the country. Report it, sure, but don't expect much.....

They should start putting gps locators in the boards like they do with pets. or may be i'll make a decal that says "locator chip inside" or somthing like that...

I agree with 90% of what Cisco said except for the board not being found. Webby and scragy gave you good advice as well.

Weird. I must be losing my mind:knockout: I AGREE with Crisco!!!

Here's what you can do to prevent future thefts: set a trap. Put a nice board in the back of a truck. Take a hike. Have friends with binoculars set up nearby. When the thieves make their move, the spies move to block the parking lot with a car. A beatdown ensues, widely publicized, of course. Word gets around.

STFU you grumpy old man. You sound like my 90 year old neighbor who keeps my frisbees when they accidentally go in his yard. This kids looking to find his buddys stolen board, not a rant about how the world sucks and hes an "idiot" for not being a paranoid POS

Tsk, tsk, my, my...it is sooooo easy to tweak you.
Sounds as if your 90 year old neighbor is smarter than you are. It also sounds as if you suck at flipping frisbees around. All of that from your brief note. Shame, a real shame....

That photo is wrong on a couple of levels.

1 Sideways
2 WRV funshape (w/ flames!)
3 Spank lotion prominently displayed on night stand.

Well, at least it's not a Canyon or Surfboards Australia!!!
IOW Chinese crap.
