Where were you parked? I was parked at Lobster Cove restaurant when my bag was ripped off. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a small group of individuals responsible for this series of robberies.
I don't live there so I can't really watch out much, but I'll remember the board color and anytime I'm surfing NE (more often than you might think) I will be on the lookout.
A lot of my friends from back in Wisconsin like Robert August's boards ... they say he makes some shapes that work great on freshwater.
I think one way we can all fight back too is to never buy any gear from somebody who seems questionable ... i.e. a non-surfer selling surfboards ... that doesn't seem to know anything about the board ... you know the kind ... if you're approached, post the attempted sale on here or call the PD to see if it matches something reported stolen.
We will probably never put a stop to theft, but we can reduce the market for stolen surf gear by refusing to buy it ...

My boards are too loud and obnoxious to be mistaken for anything else really ...

10'6" x 24.5" x 3 1/2", made myself from a Clark blank ... 'Stewart' rocker, double concave tail, birch/mahogany veneer throughout, solid wood hand shaped nose and tail blocks, weighs 36 lb. riding leashless could be dangerous ...

Yep! Checkers is a wave catching MACHINE!! No steep drops with it though. The weight keeps you cruising when others will stall out. Easy to connect sections with, and unaffected by average wind chop.
If I had it to do over again, I think I'd maybe change the rails a bit (they're pretty much 50/50) and possibly shave some more foam off the nose. You can really stomp on the tail of this one too without stalling it ... assuming you've got a little speed going. I'm no expert shaper, but I think the double concave tail helps in that aspect. It also turns surprisingly well for such a steamship.
Very fun on small to mediocre days. Dangerous on bigger days :O
NOW I have to get better on that 7' 6" cowfish ... a big transition for a newbie like me ...

Guys, I did something this weekend while in Upper Michigan (yes, surfing ...) that I know wouldn't stop all board theft, but was cheap and would at least delay theft and make it tedious and difficult.
I bought bicycle cable locks, and weaved them around the hard rack on the car, then around the board, in front of the fin, leaving little slack as to prevent sliding out from under the cable.
They were something like $5 at the store ... you can get combo or key kinds.
Just an idea. I know it wouldn't stop the hardcore theives, but it would make it a much longer process to lift your board, and they'd probably just pass it by for fear of being caught.
You guys getting any waves there? Knee to waist high in parts of Upper Michigan this morning. A few stokely chest high sets. Took "Checkers" out.
