About Us

Mike Marks - Lead Partner, Editor
Mike grew up in SoCal and spent most of his summer days bodysurfing at Venice or Zuma and sailing on Santa Monica Bay. He began board surfing after getting married on Kauai and has been making up for lost time ever since, first in SoCal and now on Cape Cod. Mike and his wife arrived on Cape Cod in 1996 and have two fast-growing girls. In addition to remaking NESURF, Mike is a co-founder of MoreBeach.com, WorkTools, Endeavor Tool Company, Accentra, and Invention City. In the 1980's, he worked as a commercial photographer and photojournalist in New York City after graduating from UCLA with a degree in Economics.

Olaf Valli - Web Development
Although Olaf grew up on the beaches of Cape Cod, he did not start surfing until his late teens. It was love at first ride. This passion for surfing inspired him to create SICKDAY- a surf and skate shop located in the heart of Wellfleet. It is his belief that sometimes everyone needs a sickday to stay healthy. Coined the smart dude, Olaf is also a network administrator and computer technician. On his many sickdays, he is involved with the Eastern Surfing Association, Christian Surfers, and Surfrider. SICKDAY sponsors many of the local youths, equipping them so they can better develop their skills. email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Chris Munz - Founder, Web Management, Strategic Planning
Chris grew up in Italy and spent most of his summers under water snorkelling and free diving. Fresh off the boat in 1992, Chris took an interest in the New England surfing scene by taking up body boarding. Since then he has sponged and surfed, badly, in places like Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. But it is those near empty cold and oh so good the New England waves that got him interested in launching NESurf in June of 2000. When not working on site maintenance, pondering the future of NESurf, or taking criticism for "not standing up", he's in the woods, running. email:  This email address is being protected from spambots. John McGuirl - Forum Editor
John is 30 years old and living the dream. With his girlfriend Lucy, he spends half the year in Indonesia aboard the Indo Odyssey and the other half as a surf guide for the Pohnpei Surf Club. He is, in own words, “100% committed to surfing.” When he’s not traveling abroad, John lives in Newport and can be found at either WaterBros or his local surf spots. He’s proud to be 100% Rhode Islander and the editor of NESurf forums.

Shawn Vecchione - Advisor
Cape Cod native Shawn Vecchione learned how to shape surfboards alongside Dick Brewer, Bobby Allen and Billy Hamilton. His custom boards have been surfed by the late Andy Irons and his brother Bruce, Makua Rothman, Dustin Barca, Felipe Pomar, and Victor Rosario. Shawn moved back to Cape Cod from Kauai a few years ago and now has a shaping room/shop in Orleans where he makes and sells Vec Surfboards.
